Take Action 2010

If the recent, devastating earthquake in Haiti has shown us anything, it's that Americans can step up and make a difference for a worthy cause. What’s heart-breaking is that it takes these catastrophic events to get people involved when thousands of other, equally important charitable organizations, are working hard day-in and day-out just to get a thousandth of the recognition and support that Haiti Relief has received.

Enter the Take Action tour and compilation album. This annual series focuses a charity spotlight on one of these less prominent, but life saving organizations. With the support of countless corporate sponsors, bands and venues, Sub City has helped raise over 1.5 million dollars for various charities since Take Action was founded in 1999.

This year's spotlight focuses on Driving For Donors; the brainchild of 14-year-old Patrick Pedraja who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 10. The cure for this type of cancer comes in the form of bone marrow transplants; a procedure so difficult to successfully complete that just forty years ago there was a zero percent survival rate for this disease. However, because of the advancements in bone marrow transplants and the ability to quickly and successfully find matching donors, the survival rate in recent years has jumped to between 20-75%. Driving For Donors’ mission is to sign people up for the National Marrow Registry to help find these life saving bone marrow matches for people in need of transplants. Since the charity started back in 2007, Driving For Donors has registered over 22,000 donors and saved 24 lives.

How can you help? By listening to music! Releasing on February 9th via Sub City Records, you can pick up the new Take Action Tour Compilation Volume 9. Not only is this two-CD set packed with previously unreleased songs and remixed versions from bands like Taking Back Sunday, Cobra Starship, 3OH!3, A Rocket to the Moon, and more, but 5% of album sales are donated to Driving For Donors.

Additionally, you can see a handful of the Take Action bands live at any one of their 32 tour stops starting today and running through early March. 10% of the cost of all tickets sold will also be donated to further the cause started two years ago by Patrick Pedraja.

We invite you to participate each and every way that you can. Below are the links to pre-order the Take Action compilation album, or purchase tickets to any one of the tour dates listed. Because when it comes to saving lives, we all need to TAKE ACTION!
